AGILE, SCRUM and SPRINT
Agile:
Is a set of values and principles. It is an iterative approach to project management and software development that helps teams to deliver value to their customers faster. Agile team delivers work in small but consumable, increments. Requirements, plans and results are evaluated continuously for responding to change quickly
Agile is set of principles and scrum is a framework for getting it done
Scrum:
Agile project management framework which describes a set of meetings, tools, and the roles that work in concert to help teams structure and manage their work
1) Embrace change
2) Reduce risks and costs
3) Is a regular and tangible process
Sprint:
Sprint is a short, time-boxed period when a scrum team works to complete a set amount of work.
Sprints are at the very heart of scrum and agile methodologies
With scrum, a product is built in a series of iterations called sprints that break down big, complex projects into bite sized pieces
Sprint Cycle:
1) Sprint Planning -> Product Backlog (A good sprint plan motivates everyone by defining an outcome and a clear plan for success)
2) Daily Scrum or Standup -> Sprint Backlog (ultimate to-do list) -> What we did yesterday, what we will do Today, Blockers?
3) Sprint Review -> after a sprint, the team demonstrates what they have completed during the sprint review
4) Sprint Retrospective -> What went well, identify areas of improvement
Scrum masters are the facilitators of scrum, act as coaches to the rest of the team. They are responsible for
1) Standups
2) Iteration/sprint planning meetings
3) Sprint reviews
4) Retrospectives
5) Scrum board administration
6) 1-1's, Reporting (burndown charts), eliminating blockers
Stories, also called “user stories,” are short requirements or requests written from the perspective of an end user.
Epics are large bodies of work that can be broken down into a number of smaller tasks (called stories).
Initiatives are collections of epics that drive toward a common goal.
Themes are large focus areas that span the organization.
