Who is a Software Engineer?

We know who is a software engineer, what they do professionally. If not let me add few lines that will help you to understand.

A Software Engineer is a professional who applies principles of software engineering to design, develop, maintain, test, support and evaluate computer software. They collaborate within teams and outside the teams. They stay updated with the latest technologies and work across various industries including finance, education, healthcare, entertainment, IT and many more to name them. Overall, a software engineer combines technical expertise, creativity, and analytical thinking to solve complex problems and create impactful software solutions.

Other Side Of The Story

In the fast paced life, one wants to quickly grow, buy a house, buy a car, get married, have children's, buy health, term, car, two wheeler insurances, pay school fees, pay medical bills, pay for cloths, shoes, food. Spend money on weekends, go out with friends, colleagues, family. Invest in stocks, mutual funds, crypto, real estate. Invest in provident fund, pension schema. In between to compensate all these, apply for 3-4 credit cards. Take education loan for kids, personal loan for paying credit card bills and some to fulfil desires of others. Add your comments with the list that I have missed.

There is a common question

Package estu? what is your package?

Don't ever ask about this question. It is a worst question to be asked, you know why? The package consists of fixed and variable pay. The structure is simply defined just for the sake, because most of the money is eaten by governments in the form of Income Tax, GST, Capital Gains, Stamp Duty, Registration Fees and by Financial Institutions in the form of Loans. People in the form of emotion, credit. Companies in the form of performance bonus. I will try to give practical example on one of them later on.

Lets come to fixed and variable pay part. Fixed part consists of HRA, Basic and few other components. Lets consider HRA, they define a x number and a software engineer is entitled to claim up to 40 to 50% based on their basic salary component and on metro cities. First of all why do you define and why do you take the money out of it. If it is defined as x amount, 100% of it should be given to an employee.

Lets look into the variable pay. This is where the companies are so smart in having the performance based bonuses, which is not paid in full even you have a excellent performance. 

Financial Institutions increase the rate of interest without informing the loan takers but when a repo rate is decreased, you need to visit their place and give an application to reduce the rate of interest. So plan your finances, avoid loans.

No need to talk about our near and dear ones, you know what happens the moment somebody knows someone has money or a good package. 

So, don't ever ask a software engineer what is your package and my advice is never share your salary information or financial condition whether you are in a good shape or bad shape.

There are certain people who blame the software engineers for the cost increase across sectors but what they do not know is how a software engineer is helping the eco system.
